The "Flipped Classroom" design of instruction is a new way of thinking how we utilize class time. With this method, teachers create instructional material and lessons and post them online, where students can review them and learn the coursework ahead of in-person class time. Then in class, the teacher and students can utilize that time to work through problems, analyze and discuss themes in the material, answer questions, and give feedback. This can be very beneficial because since the students have already learned the material, the traditional classroom time can be dedicated to more individualized attention. Learn more HERE.
Open education, open content, and open source are the main terms discussed in the podcast. Open education gives everyone, regardless of enrollment in a traditional school, the chance to get an education. Usually these courses are available online through a school's website, and is completely free. Open content is information, pictures, videos, and resources that are available to people without cost. Creative Commons is an example of open content, since you don't have to give credit and it is not copyright material. Open source is all about software that is available for the public, rather than purchased for individual use. This provides users and creators to be able to update the software for little cost. I really enjoyed the PowerPoint assignments that we did. Since it wasn't based solely around education topics, I had a lot of creative freedom to make it silly and fun. It was honestly a big stress relief to get to do an assignment that was so fun to make. Both my presentation on Vine and my Choose Your Own Adventure game were my favorite assignments I think I've ever made for any class so far. It also helped me to become a lot more proficient with all of the different functions of PowerPoint.
